The School of Communication and Culture is committed to diversity and encourages all qualified applicants to apply regardless of their personal background.

Project
The Classical Influences and Irish Culture research project aims to investigate the sustained diachronic relevance of material from classical Greece and Rome to the formation of Irish identities from the medieval period to the present day. The project is structured around nine central themes: Language; Land; Migration; Troy; Satire; Platonism; Female Voices; Material Culture; and Global Influence. The successful applicant will be expected to produce research related to the Material Culture theme. Applicants are encouraged to consult the project website to gain further insights into how their existing research may intersect with the project themes and complement the strengths of the current project team members.

The successful applicant will also contribute to populating the project database of Classical Allusions in Irish Literature with data related to their research. Training will be provided for data entry; no prior experience is required. The database prototype may be browsed via the project website.

Applicants should be prepared to work as part of a team, and to engage with other team members and invited experts in broad interdisciplinary terms that may or may not relate closely to their own primary field of expertise. All team members will be expected to attend the interdisciplinary events organised under the auspices of the project and will have the opportunity of interacting with experts in various fields who are linked to the project as Research Affiliates or members of the Advisory Board.

The working language for this project is English and no knowledge of the Danish language is required.

Applicants should indicate their anticipated publication trajectory in their research proposal (see Qualifications). In addition, the successful applicant will contribute to populating the project database as outlined above (The Project).

The main criteria for selection will be the quality of the applicant’s research, the excellence of their research proposal, and the proposal’s relevance to the project.
